The month of August in ending, and September is right around the corner. The summer has been a hot one, but the long days of fun are over, and the leaves are preparing to turn as the season moves into fall. But this doesn’t mean the fun has to end. There are plenty of activities you and your children can enjoy as Autumn peeks it’s head in preparation for Winter.
First, get seasonal. Start exploring the many options that seasonal fruits and vegetables provide. Why not have a pumpkin week? You can make pumpkin pie, muffins, cookies, and even bread. You can clean and bake the seeds for a great, and healthy, snack. You can also incorporate those spices that represent the season, like nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Second, start getting into the coming holiday. What kid doesn’t love Halloween? The chance to dress up, get scared, and eat all the candy they can find. Have them start decorating early. Make ghosts by putting a sheet of tissue over a tootie pop, securing it with string, and drawing on a face. Paint pumpkins, and draw haunted houses. Make a spooky diorama…the options are endless, and your kids will have a blast.
